Light commercial vehicle and truck exports exceed $5 billion

In the Turkish automotive industry, exports of “motor vehicles for the transport of goods”, which include the light commercial vehicle-pickup truck and truck group, exceeded 5 billion dollars last year. The UK ranked first in exports with 1.4 billion dollars.

According to the compilation of data from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters’ Association (OİB), the automotive industry realized 30 billion 995 million 808 thousand dollars in exports last year, an increase of 5.7 percent compared to 2021.

The exports of “motor vehicles for the transport of goods”, which are one of the sub-product groups of the automotive industry, decreased by 5.15 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year.

The exports of light commercial vehicles-pickup trucks and trucks, which were 5 billion 328 million 287 thousand dollars in 2021, were recorded as 5 billion 53 million 950 thousand dollars in 2022.

Last year, the “motor vehicles for the transport of goods” sector, which sells to more than 100 countries and autonomous and free zones, had a share of 16.3 percent in automotive exports.

APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF THE VEHICLES PRODUCED WERE EXPORTED

Last year, the Turkish automotive sector produced 1 million 402 thousand 189 vehicles, including tractors, and exported 988 thousand 278 of them.

Of the vehicles produced, 483 thousand 181 were “motor vehicles for the transport of goods”, 441 thousand 637 of which were light commercial vehicles-pickup trucks and 41 thousand 544 of which were trucks. The share of the motor vehicles for the transport of goods group in total vehicle production was 34.45.

Of the 483,181 light commercial vehicles and trucks produced, 355,271, or 73.52 percent, were exported.

1.4 BILLION DOLLARS OF EXPORT TO THE UK

The country to which the sector exported the most in this product group last year was the UK. Exports of “motor vehicles for the transport of goods” to the UK decreased by 14 percent compared to 2021 and amounted to 1 billion 392 million 219 thousand dollars.

Exports to Italy, which ranked second, increased by 3 percent compared to 2021, reaching 590 million 3 thousand dollars.

Exports made by sector representatives to Slovenia, which ranked third, were recorded as 556 million 894 thousand dollars in 2021 and 490 million 466 thousand dollars in 2022.

EXPORTS TO THE USA INCREASED BY 124 PERCENT

Exports to the United States increased by 124.75 percent compared to 2021. Exports of “motor vehicles for the transport of goods”, which were 171 million 636 thousand dollars the previous year, reached 385 million 753 thousand dollars last year.
