ZF CEO Wolf-Henning Scheider Announces “Next Generation Mobility” Strategy.

ZF has performed the world premiere of its next-generation e-drive and AI-based digital fleet management platform for trucks
ZF’s New Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division has received significant orders within six months of its operations. This result is an indication that customers are responding positively to the new integrated product portfolio. Encouraged by this positive development, ZF showcased its latest innovations and technological advances at its test site in Jeversen, Germany, ahead of the IAA. As one of the largest suppliers to the commercial vehicle industry, it has proven its success in comprehensive integrated system solutions that provide next-level safety, efficiency and sustainability standards for trucks and trailers worldwide. Further developing its “Next Generation Mobility” strategy, ZF is using its unique ability to transfer technologies and competencies between different vehicle segments in areas such as automation and electric powertrains.

New Electric Steer-by-Wire System

By showcasing the first wire-steered system developed for passenger cars, ZF has brought its comprehensive ‘by-wire’ technology portfolio to the forefront of the industry. At the annual global technology event, ZF presented its advanced steering technology for the front axle.
“ZF’s new fully electric steering system features the latest wireless technology. Our comprehensive portfolio uniquely and strongly positions the Group to achieve fully automated wire-steered vehicle control in a highly competitive environment,” said Wolf-Henning Scheider, ZF’s CEO. “Our divisions work together in a close partnership to optimize the benefits of mutual technology transfer. ZF’s new wireless steering technology is an essential prerequisite for advanced automation in passenger cars and, in line with our guiding philosophy of ‘develop once, deploy everywhere’, will also be applied to commercial vehicle automation,” he added.
Steer-by-wire technology eliminates the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the front axle, transmitting driver commands to the steering system entirely via electrical signals. In the future, by-wire technology is expected to play an even more important role in all aspects of vehicle motion control, including longitudinal, lateral and vertical steering.

The next-generation software supporting the wired actuators, which prepares the technology for the future, can be updated wirelessly at any time. ZF has already received orders from major customers for the new Steer-by-wire system.

Next-Generation eMobility for Commercial Vehicles
The trend towards autonomous, connected and electric vehicles means a major commitment to development costs for OEMs. With its wide range of integrated solutions, ZF offers customers the opportunity to stay at the forefront of technology while reducing product development efforts.

The world premiere of CeTrax 2 is ZF’s integrated, modular electric powertrain for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The new system combines a highly integrated, compact design with a favorable power-to-weight ratio. This enables a high, continuous output of 360 kW and improved efficiency through powershift gear changes. It also features cutting-edge technologies such as a hairpin design for the stator, an innovative cooling system and a silicon carbide-based inverter adapted from ZF’s passenger car expertise. Series production for the global vehicle manufacturer is planned to begin next year.

By seamlessly combining intelligent technologies and control systems for both trucks and trailers, ZF is uniquely positioned for a holistic view of sustainability. By equipping innovative trucks and semi-trailers with the latest safety and efficiency technologies, ZF is also demonstrating how the complete vehicle approach represents a significant step towards the industry’s goal of “zero accidents” and next-level efficiency.

ZF SCALAR – Management Platform for Fleet Operators
Demonstrating its success in software development, ZF is introducing SCALAR, a new digital solution platform that provides efficient Transportation as a Service (TaaS) for commercial vehicle fleets, to the world for the first time. ZF SCALAR, a fully automated, AI-based planning, routing and distribution solution, combines and connects technologies from commercial vehicles and third-party systems with AI. The platform will help fleet operators increase operational efficiency, sustainability, planning reliability and cargo and passenger safety. ZF and SCALAR are expected to be indispensable partners for the freight and passenger transport sector.
Automation – End-to-End Automated Solutions
ZF, which operates in many areas from component manufacturing to integrated automation solutions, will also explain how it combines its management solution, the new generation ADOPT 2.0 (Autonomous Driving Open Platform Technology), with its end-to-end automated chassis control solution expertise. ZF will showcase ADOPT 2.0, which is developed for low-speed field automation applications of up to 20 km/h, as well as ADOPT 3.0, which enables center-to-center highway applications at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

Strong Position to Shape the Future of Mobility and Transportation
“ZF’s latest annual global technology showcase demonstrates once again how well-positioned the company is to meet the challenges and maximize opportunities for the future. By expanding product range, entering new markets, achieving greater technology penetration and pursuing our proven sustainability strategy, ZF has made significant progress in e-mobility, automation and connected, software-defined vehicles,” adds ZF CEO Wolf-Henning Scheider.
